Baptism of The Holy Ghost

Introduction

The baptism of the Holy Ghost is an important Bible doctrine and is essential for salvation. While John the Baptist baptized with water, he prophesied that the Messiah, Jesus Christ, would come and baptize with the Holy Ghost. So, we will see a distinct difference between John’s baptism and the baptism of Jesus.

Luke 3:16 “John answered, saying unto them all, I indeed baptize you with water; but one mightier than I cometh, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to unloose: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost and with fire.”

The word “baptize” comes from a Greek word baptizo that simply means “to dip, plunge or to be fully immersed.“

Mark 1:4 “John did baptize in the wilderness, and preach the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins.”

John the Baptist could only baptize withwater unto repentance, but Jesus baptized with the Spirit of God, which would purify their hearts and lives. Thus, the person receiving the Holy Ghost would be immersed, or covered completely, with the Spirit of God.

Many Titles But Only One Spirit

In the New Testament, there are several titles that the Spirit of God is known by, such as: Comforter, Spirit of Truth, Holy Ghost, Holy Spirit, Spirit of the Lord, Spirit of Christ, Spirit of God and often, just the word Spirit. Whenever you read one of these, realize that they are all referring to the One Spirit of God (Ephesians 4:42 Corinthians 3:17).
